What’s there at the moment:
The A1079 is the main road between Hull and York, used by
14,000 vehicles a day.
There were 194 incidents, including eight fatalities, 37 serious
injuries and 149 minor injuries on the road between November 2002 and October
2005. If you look at the whole length of the A1079 from central Hull to central
York, there were 13 deaths in just 12 months between October 2004 to
October 2005.
The stretch of road two miles from the Dunswell roundabout was the scene of a
triple fatal accident in November 2004.
The road exists to service both long-distance and local
drivers. During the summer months the road is heavily used by local farmers to
transport agricultural produce – slowly, and for mile after mile!
On a good day it takes around 90 minutes to drive from the
centre of Hull to the centre of York.
On a bad day……
