What’s there at the moment:

The A1079 is the main road between Hull and York, used by 14,000 vehicles a day.

There were 194 incidents, including eight fatalities, 37 serious injuries and 149 minor injuries on the road between November 2002 and October 2005. If you look at the whole length of the A1079 from central Hull to central York, there were 13 deaths in just 12 months between October 2004 to October 2005.

The stretch of road two miles from the Dunswell roundabout was the scene of a triple fatal accident in November 2004.

The road exists to service both long-distance and local drivers. During the summer months the road is heavily used by local farmers to transport agricultural produce – slowly, and for mile after mile!

On a good day it takes around 90 minutes to drive from the centre of Hull to the centre of York.

On a bad day……
